Island 72

An off grid retreat in Northern Ontario this cabin replaces a previous one that was on the brink of collapse. This electricity free building is heated from a cenral hearth, with a log burning stove on one side and open fire on the other. The hand split timber shingles on the exterior will age gracefully to blend in with the surrounding trees, while local forraged granite form stairs and pathways.

A covered and screened in porch is oriented to both the sunset and main elevation looks out over the most striking view. The project is all about getting cozy with family and looking out into nature with as few distractions as possible.
