Unit 4
This yoga and Pilates studio maximises the natural light from large south-facing storefront windows. The main studio is separated from the lobby and changing areas by a thickened wall, punctuated by contemporary glass bricks and generous storage. The glass blocks allow light to flow deeper into the plan and serve as an architectural feature. The floor plan is very efficient – all the circulation space is activated rather than wasted on corridors.
The existing concrete soffits are left exposed but painted to enhance the light in the lobby and studio spaces, maximising the height of each volume. The changing areas and bathrooms have lower ceilings to allow the space to be discreetly serviced. Subtle lighting details enable the mood within the spaces to be carefully controlled, ensuring it's suitable for the various activities and events throughout the day.
The design plays with the tactile aesthetic of glass block alongside the raw materiality the concrete floors and timber storage.
